Professor Thomas Kohl, MD, is head of the German Center for Fetal Surgery & Minimally Invasive Therapy (DZFT). The DZFT has been located at the University Medical Center Mannheim since July 2018.
Thomas Kohl was born in Siegen, studied in Essen, and began developing his minimally invasive surgical techniques for unborn babies in the US in 1993.
For almost 15 years, his research work was funded almost continuously by the German Research Foundation (DFG). After completing his specialist training at the University Medical Center Münster, he began performing his first procedures at the University Medical Center Bonn in the summer of 2002.
He now offers the world’s widest range of minimally invasive prenatal procedures in close collaboration with obstetricians, prenatal specialists, pediatricians, and pediatric surgeons, supported by instrument manufacturers from the private sector.
